Impakt is a mixed media festival for experimental art and music in Utrecht. The festival theme was ‘YourSpace’ and highlighted the social consequences the Web has on society and the role subcultures plays in it. We designed a visual identity and campaign based on this insight, and generated ‘avatars’ for every participant and visitor of the festival.
These masks were created through processing and consisted of geometrical shapes and colors. Your personal avatar was printed on your entry ticket: an RFID button that contained your social profile. During the festival, people could rate your avatar, view your online footprint and connect to you if you had similar interests. The installation also explored the future of social networks as reputation quantification systems, and the repercussions this could have for interactions in society.
